Vaicute in the media

DECEMBER 2021

"I've always had the inventor's flaw"

Anna magazine published a long personal interview with Raisa Mäkäräinen, the developer of the Vaicute cream family, before Christmas (December 8, 2021; issue 49). The story goes through Raisa's childhood, adulthood, physiotherapy and medical studies, family, and also her career, which has been shaped by injuries and disabilities.

Raisa says she is learning to accept that a limping leg and a stooped back are part of her everyday life. Letting go of the old has made room for the new.

The forest is Raisa's second home, gym and loyal listener. Standing on the top of Ristelinvaara in Kainuu, she feels as strong as the sky curving above.

Raisa currently sees an occupational health doctor three days a week and has reserved two other days for developing the Vaicute product line. Anna magazine tells about Raisa's studies as a natural product developer and the idea that led to the development of Vaicute, a cream that moisturizes the mucous membranes of the pubic area and contains phytoestrogens from Finnish red clover. It can also help those who cannot resort to estrogen treatments to get relief from their menopausal symptoms.

At the core of every work has been the desire to help people , writes journalist Terhi Harper, who interviewed Raisa.

"It's wonderful to think about what kind of ointments and remedies you can develop from nature's gifts. Sometimes I giggle to myself that maybe I have the abilities of the ancient forest dwellers," Raisa says.

SEPTEMBER 2021

"Medicine doesn't have to conflict with natural remedies"

This is the headline of the local newspaper Kainuulainen, which introduces the developer of the Vaicute product family, doctor Raisa Mäkäräinen, as the Kainuulian of the Month.

The confrontation between medicine and natural products has disturbed Raisa Mäkäräinen. Rather, we could walk side by side, supporting each other.

"Things based on scientific evidence are important both in the work of a doctor and in the natural products industry, but doctors could learn something from ancient folklore. There are many things there that medicine does not know and that could be utilized. Of course, the other way around, nothing should be dismissed just because it represents modern medicine," Mäkäräinen says in the article.

The first product in the Vaicute product family , a moisturizing cream for the mucous membranes of the pubic area, was launched on the market in the summer. The cream's main ingredient is Finnish red clover, and it is available in well-stocked pharmacies and some Life stores in addition to the Vaicute online store.

Mäkäräinen also takes a stance on easing the shortage of doctors in Kainuu. "Why wouldn't a private operator get a couple of holiday shares in Vuokatti, for example, where doctors could bring their families on holiday and hold a consultation in the city at the same time. It wouldn't be a very expensive investment. This has been tried in the ski resorts of Lapland, and it's even crowded there."

There is a new hospital in Kajaani and, according to Mäkäräinen, an excellent gynecology unit.

Phytoestrogens alongside hormone therapy

In an article in SenioriTerveys magazine (6/2021), Raisa Mäkäräinen says that she views phytoestrogens from a scientific perspective, but at the same time believes that there are many sides to things, and that there is no one and only true truth.

"At this stage, it is not yet possible to say completely what the facts are regarding phytoestrogens and how they affect the human body. The research area is broad and difficult to study, because each person's body processes phytoestrogens in an individual way, depending on age and place of residence, among other things," Mäkäräinen says in the article.

Phytoestrogens are found in different concentrations in different plants. Soy is the most abundant, and there are also many in nuts, beans, grains and red wine. The best-known and best source of phytoestrogens among Finnish plants is red clover, which is the main ingredient in Vaicute cream, which moisturizes the mucous membranes of the pubic area.

Mäkäräinen advises that a woman approaching menopause should eat a variety of plants, berries, and vegetables, and pay special attention to protein intake. You can't live on vegetables alone, because they contain little protein. Without protein, muscle mass is at risk of being lost along with estrogen, and the butt disappears and moves to the stomach.

JUNE 2021

Dr. Mäkäräinen developed a treatment cream for the pubic area: "I was afraid I would get a reputation as a phony doctor!"

Three years went by, fiddling around with pots and blenders, and then a new cream for the mucous membranes of a woman's pubic area was ready, says Raisa Mäkäräinen in an Iltalehti profile. Something like this had never been on the market before.

The active ingredient selected for the new cream is traditional, domestic red clover, which contains phytoestrogen. The other raw materials are also of natural origin.

His medical colleagues have mostly only encouraged Mäkäräinen in his development of the cream. He has not gained the reputation of a doctor of the underworld, although he was afraid of it at first.

The Vaicute story continues after all
The Vaicute product family suffered a great loss in May 2023 when the product creator and developer, Dr. Raisa Mäkäräinen, passed away unexpectedly. The loss was enormous in every way, and the future of the Vaicute products was also uncertain. Raisa Mäkäräinen, developer of Vaicute products. One person could hardly fill Raisa's shoes in any area, so we decided to take on the challenge of natural cosmetics with the help of three women. We founded Marion Finland Oy, which will continue to manufacture and sell Vaicute products. The name and packaging of the product family will remain in the familiar form for the time being. The operations are still in Kainuu, now in Sotkamo instead of Kajaani. Marion Finland Oy's founders are Mari Jaakkola, Marianne Mäki and Kirsi Kuvaja. All three of us entrepreneurs have a long background in the academic world of plant research. We participated in research collaboration with Raisan Terveyspirtti at the university already during the development phase of the first Vaicute product. The author of this text, the CEO of Marion Finland Oy, also worked at Raisan Terveyspirtti for half a year. The products and the company's operating environment were therefore familiar to us. Our background in plant research, quality and equipment management related to laboratory work, and domestic and international networks in the field give us a solid foundation for continuing and developing our business. The prerequisite for continuing production was also that the products were of high quality and that we could sincerely stand behind them. As a doctor, Raisa's heart was to be a bridge builder between science and the world of natural products, so that they could support each other instead of opposing each other. We want to continue strengthening those bridges and building new ones. Like Raisa, we want to invest in the best domestic plant raw materials, and utilize scientific research in product development and evaluation of effectiveness, as well as share research information in an easily understandable format for our customers. We hope that the driving force behind our work will always be joy, inspiration and enthusiasm. The most important thing why we continue to manufacture Vaicute products is the feedback from our customers. The cream, developed especially for women's mucous membranes, has been longed for back on the market. The feedback has been downright confusing. It humbles the mind, and brightens and clarifies our motivation to continue the work that Raisa started. We will do our best to continue Raisa's life's work and serve our customers with high-quality Vaicute products. We gratefully accept this inspiring challenge. Warmest regards from our entire team, Mari Jaakkola CEO of Marion Finland Oy
